  1. 1  LIST CHANGES WITH EDITION 105

  3. I will be "flushing out" information on the list with edition
  4. 105.  The list will use the "R" designation for RBBS and all
  5. sections will be filled out.  If I do not know a piece of
  6. information, I will substitute a "?".  As usual, this will apply
  7. to NEW and UPDATED entries only.
  8.  
  9. The following modem information will be displayed for new and
  10. updated boards starting with edition 105 of USBBS. Old boards
  11. will be aligned with this column and the "UV" designation will
  12. become "D".  The field will be in columns 50-53 in the following
  13. format:

  15.     mMxx
  16.  
  17. m = Minimum speed
  18. M = Maximum speed
  19.  
  20. 0 = 300
  21. 1 = 1200
  22. 2 = 2400
  23. 9 = 9600 and greater
  24.  
  25. xx = Modulation type(s):
  26.  
  27. V = V.32 or V.32bis
  28. U = USRobotics HST
  29. D = USRobotics Dual Standard (V32 and HST)
  30. H = Hayes VSM
  31. B = Hayes Ultra (V32 and VSM)
  32. O = Other proprietary method

  34. These modulation indicators will appear for those boards
  35. supporting 9600 baud or greater maximum rates.  As additional
  36. modulation types are added, we will consider them for their own
  37. letters.

  39. These features appear to be the most important for a caller to
  40. determine if they can connect with a board.  Higher baud rate
  41. claims (e.g. greater than 9600) depend so much on manufacturer,
  42. modulation, and settings of both the calling modem and BBS modem
  43. that 9600 will continue to be the maximum entry.

  45. The entry will support two modulation types so boards which
  46. support different types on multiple lines can indicate this.

  49. 2  UPDATE SCHEDULE
  50.  
  51. USBBS is updated from entries subitted by callers throughout the
  52. month.  Only updates made to an official update point through the
  53. indicated method can be assured to make the list if the board
  54. qualifies.

  56. The final update to USBBS is made on the last weekend of the
  57. month before the edition month unless the first is on a weekend. 
  58. The list is usually available Sunday morning.  I distribute it
  59. personally to the distribution points sometime during Sunday.

  81. 3  BOARDS REMOVED (USBBSxxx.DEL)

  83. Each month I find out about boards which are down for one reason
  84. or another.  I simply delete these boards from the list.  Is
  85. there any value of moving them to another file (USBBSxxx.DEL) for
  86. a couple of months so they don't just disappear?

  88. The file would be included with every edition.  I would keep them
  89. on this file with the date removed from the list for a couple of
  90. months.  Thus if they were removed in error, I can be notified
  91. and they can be replaced.

  101. The following files are included in the USBBSxxx.ZIP archive:

  105. USBBSxxx.TXT    Distribution and Update points for the USBBS
  106.                 list.

  108.                 Eventually, there will be 4-5 update points --
  109.                 one in each geographic part of the country.  The
  110.                 distribution points for the list are boards that
  111.                 I personally upload the list to shortly after it
  112.                 is updated.

  114.                 This file will be included with each edition of
  115.                 the list.
